At Swing Tyne we aim to provide a variety of opportunities for all levels of dancers to focus on improving their technique and skill set. After having organised a number of beginner and improver Balboa workshops in recent months-
This weekend one is for INTERMEDIATE PLUS/ Advanced dancers!
Mel & Jo Calanglang from London will be providing 8 hours of Pure Bal and Bal Swing with an optional hour's taster lesson included of Slow Bal over the 2 days at James & Basil's Church hall, Fenham, Hall Drive, Newcastle NE49XP (Saturday & Sunday).
Mel and Jo are dance enthusiasts who dedicate their time to encourage swing dancing in the United Kingdom. Being familiar with lindy hop and blues, their current passion is mastering Balboa and Bal-swing - a journey of continuous learning. Currently, you can find them social dancing and competing at various events across Europe and the United States. They also teach Balboa/Bal-swing and facilitate pilot sessions throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. Their “down-to-earth” and positive attitude helps to make the classes they teach not only informative but also very enjoyable. Mel still continues his love for music as a DJ and emcee at dance events across Europe and the United States.
Their aspirations to be balboa ambassadors stems from their drive to continuously learn and share the passion and knowledge of dance to enthusiasts alike.
There will be a Live Band, Alligator Gumbo www.alligatorgumbo.co.uk on the Saturday night along with Swing Tyne DJ's and of Course Mel .
Now the important bit -
1 - Places will be limited to the venue size to 44 dancers
2- Level is for INTERMEDIATES PLUS DANCERS and above.
This workshop is not suitable FOR BEGINNERS or IMPROVERS.
What is INTERMEDIATE PLUS?
You’ve taken Balboa lessons for more than two years now and mastered all the basics in Pure Balboa : single time, double time, come around, traveling steps, side steps, crab walk, paddle . In Balboa Swing : transition, out & in, throw out, lollies, swivels and their variations. Now you want to seek on improving, seek more technique, musicality, and complicated variations.
You will attend classes regularly, hardly ever miss a chance to dance Balboa and even attend some workshops and festivals. You want to perfect your technique, expand your vocabulary of moves, explore the connection and work on your musicality.
You are comfortable to dance to this song (218 BPM): please listen and dance to the song to verify this. You should be able to dance Balboa to this song as an individual without the need for a partner.
If you are not sure whether this workshop is for you then please ask prior to booking a ticket (this is to ensure that all attendees have the best experience at the workshop), Once you've purchased your ticket you will required to dance in the dance role of the purchased ticket for the workshop.
Concession prices are for those who are students/unemployed or low waged and we ask that anyone who can afford the standard priced tickets to purchase a standard price one as there are limited concession tickets.
